Baptism

Baptism is an ordinance of the church that expresses our belief in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As an act of obedience and submission to the will of God, modeled by Jesus Christ, believers are immersed in water, a symbol of the grave where trespasses against God are buried. It is a sign of the Holy Spirit’s power to wash and cleanse the soul (sanctification) from the corruption of our old nature and walk in the newness of life, even as Christ rose from the dead with power over sin and evil. Baptism was authorized by Jesus in The Great Commission, “Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit....” (Mt. 28:19, NKJV). Baptism is strongly associated with forgiveness of sins, regeneration, and adoption as children of God.
