Dr. Owens was called to serve as Pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church on May 3, 2017. Installation festivities begin on Saturday, August 12, at 6 p.m. with a musical celebration featuring the choirs of New Hope, and a special guest soloist, Evangelist Kimberly Whitsett of Detroit, Michigan, accompanied by Mr. Gregory Pearson, Minister of Music, Bethel Baptist Church, East, Detroit, Michigan.

On Sunday, August 13, Installation Services will be conducted at the 7:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. worship hours, followed by the formal 4:00 p.m. Installation Rites and fellowship dinner. Distinguished guest speakers will present during all services, highlighted by the message to be brought by Dr. Owens’ long time pastor, Dr. Wallace Charles Smith, Shiloh Baptist Church, Washington, D.C.  Community leaders and legislators are encouraged to join in sharing this exciting occasion.

Dr. Owens will continue a very proud, impactful legacy of leadership in the areas of spirituality and community service which New Hope Missionary Baptist Church has provided the Inland Empire.

Reverend Dr. Michael Andrew Owens accepted the call to preach at the age of 15 and was licensed by the Bethany Baptist Church in his home town of Chester, Pennsylvania in 1982. Dr. Owens was examined by the New Hope Baptist Association and ordained at the Calvary Baptist Church in Chester, Pennsylvania.  He now celebrates  45 years as a preacher of the Gospel.

Empowered by the Holy Spirit, Dr. Owens further prepared himself for the ministry through secular and religious educational pursuits. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, West State University, West Chester PA.  He completed his theological education at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary, Philadelphia PA reading both his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry Degrees.

Dr. Owens has been a great asset to the communities in which he served as pastor. He directed the Capital Area City Wide Revival for 10 years, as part of his work with the Interdenominational Ministers Conference of Greater Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. He served as President of the Council of Baptist Pastors of Detroit and Vicinity. Dr. Owens was among the honorees recognized on the Ebony Magazine Power 100 list for 2014, as a Community Crusader for religious leadership rendered during the bankruptcy and emergency manager crisis in Detroit.
